There was a time many years back, that we had "breakfast" for dinner about once a week. The usual fare would be French toast or pancakes, but sometimes I would go "all out" and make waffles or Swedish Pancakes. Tonight I decided to bring back the 'ol days and whip up some pancakes for dinner. I usually like my pancakes unadulterated and plain with a bit of butter and lots
of high-quality maple syrup. I have also been known to favor adding a little variety in my syrup, like blueberry or raspberry syrup. This time, however, I decided to kick it up a few notches and add a few extra ingredients to the pancakes. I suppose I can blame this on watching one too many shows on the Food Network lately. I added blueberries, walnuts, and chocolate chips to our pancakes tonight -- not to the same pancake, bu
t making three pancakes each with one of those ingredients. All this got me thinking about more ingredients that could be added to pancakes and I came up with the following list. Maybe you could think of a few more. Also here's some helpful information to use when adding ingredients to your pancakes. To Razz-Ma-Tazz your Pancakes add these Ingredients...
- Chips (chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, butterscotch...)
- Dried Fruit (raisins, apricots, cranberries...)
- Fresh Fruit (apples, bananas, berries, peaches, apricots...)
- Nuts, raw or toasted (pecans, walnuts, slivered almonds...)
- Savory (ham, bacon, sausage...)
- Fiber (oatmeal, whole wheat, bran, cornmeal...)
- Cheese (ricotta, cream cheese, sour cream...)
- Flavorings (cinnamon, lemon, peanut butter, jam...)
- Veggies (sweet potato, pumpkin...)
Honestly, I do love a good breakfast for dinner every now and then!
I just came upon another cute idea for breakfast. Go here to a favorite blog of mine, "Tins and Treasures." This wonderful lady is a Family & Consumer Science high school teacher. She posted this fun idea for an omelet. I think this would be really great breakfast or dinner that young children could make themselves -- adding their own favorite ingredients. Then into the water and whaalaaa -- it's magically cooked! Check it out!
